The latest numbers coming from Pyramid Research peg the smartphone segment as the fastest growing area for cellphones over the coming years. The see the 16% market share it now takes moving to 37% by 2014. What’s more interesting as far as the shanzhai are concerned is that most of that growth won’t be coming from inside the US but rather markets where the shanzhai are enjoying a lot of success. If that jibes with Garnter’s figures of shanzhai sales doubling in 2009 over 2008 companies like MediaTek stand to enjoy continued success.
Pyramid goes a step further and predicts in 2010 China (hello shanzhai!!!) will experience the fastest growth, overtaking the US, but that over a 5 year stretch Latin America will eventually become the fastest growing region.
"Pyramid expects China to capture the No. 1 position in 2010, driven by operators' aggressive promotion of smartphones using wider portfolios, more attractive pricing for services, and new initiatives," Omar Salvador, senior analyst at Pyramid Research, said in a statement. "Brazil, India, Turkey, and Nigeria will be the fastest growing markets over the next five years with CAGRs of 43 percent, 39 percent, 37 percent, and 34 percent, respectively. Latin America will be the fastest growing region at a compound annual growth rate of 48 percent, followed by Africa and the Middle East with a 39 percent CAGR."-Source
Brazil has fairly strict importation and local manufacturing laws but India and Nigeria are already markets where shanzhai phones have made inroads. India recently has taken measures to block phones without unique IMEI numbers but has also instigated programs where people can register their shanzhai phones and get genuine IMEI identification for their phones. It would seem then that it would remain a viable market for shanzhai phones
The following video is a introductionn of a type of Shanzhai iphone,Shanzhai products are no longer poor quality, they become more and more professional.
